I choose to use a pen name for a couple reasons.

• One reason being my “real” name isn’t as common as say John Smith, but it is a rather common name. When I google it about a dozen or more different people pop up with the same name and someone already owns the domain. As an author having the name you write under as your website domain name is important.
• Another reason is to protect my family’s privacy. While I have chosen to put myself in the public eye, they have not and I would hate for my actions to have any adverse affects on them. 

With that being said… Nikki Amare is a pen name but the person behind the name is very real. It is not a persona or a character I play, it is simply ME with a different name.

Amazon requires authors to be exclusive to their platform in order for their books to be listed in their Kindle Unlimited program. Meaning, authors in KU can only sell their books on Amazon.

And while I realize a lot of people use KU, and similar subscription programs, I prefer to have my books available on as many platforms and listed with as many retailers as possible.

I put a lot of time and money into writing and publishing a book. While I have no problems doing giveaways and promotional sales, or even having the first book in a series discounted, the prices for my books are listed based on the total word count.

• Novella (10k-40K): $2.99 USD
• Novel (50k-100k): $3.99-$4.99 USD
• Super Novel (100K and over): $4.99-$5.99 USD

My ebooks are available on all major ebook retailers: Apple Books, Kobo, Nook, Amazon, and Google Play. You can also find my book through library apps such as Overdrive.

Print Versions are available through Ingram Sparks and can be found on Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and can be ordered through your local bookstore.

I hope to one day be able to release audiobook versions of my work, but in order for that to happen I have to be able to afford the cost of production. It can cost several thousand dollars (USD) to hire a voice actor. I have to be sure my sales justify the cost of such a venture.

I would love to have my books available in as many languages and formats possible but each one of those things takes money and so therefore can only be done if the individual book makes enough to cover the cost.

I would love nothing more to be able to go to every convention and meet with fans. I love to talk, especially about books. However, public events are hard for me. I have a medical condition that makes crowds of people dangerous to my health. Perfume, dust, smoke, germs, etc are all hazardous for me to be around without a mask to filter things out.

Wearing the mask in public means I get a lot of stares, some dirty looks, and have even had people cross the street to avoid me. While it doesn’t usually bother me all that much, I also try not to put myself in those situations. Being at a convention means dealing with all of those things.

Not to mention the expense of the event itself.

I hope to be able to do the occasional event but my health has to come first. I hope you understand.
